Narrowing The Performance Gap
After establishing MusicCord-PRO as the new standard of performance and value, we could have stopped and rested on our laurels. But we were not satisfied. Our own Reference series components are our benchmark for excellence. To achieve "Reference" level of refined performance requires costly and proprietary processes that do not lend themselves to mass production manufacturing. We asked, "How can we improve MusicCord-PRO Professional Series components to narrow the performance gap?" This became our mission.
Incorporate "Reference" Features
We began our quest by looking at the build process for The Essence Reference power cord and asked, "What processes could be performed yet still offer exceptional value to customers?" We decided to implement two key processing steps:
- Deep cryogenic treatment to -300o F.
- Proprietary plug termination processing.
Deep Cryogenic Treatment To -300o Fahrenheit
Deep cryogenic treatment employed on ES and Reference series components is a process of gradually lowering the temperature over a 36-hour period to below -300o F, and then gradually raising the temperature back to room conditions. It results in permanent irreversible changes to copper conductors. Why does deep cryogenic treatment improve the performance of audio cables? To understand the true effects of cryogenics on copper we turned to automotive engineers who examined the effect upon copper welding tips. What they found was that contrary to what many audiophiles have been told after cryogenic processing, copper has more grain boundaries than before treatment. The grain boundaries are forced to align maximizing surface contact minimizing resistance across the boundary to the point where electrically it's as if the boundary no longer existed. |
